Proposal Reflection

Proposal Reflection

In this assignment, we worked in groups to compose a proposal and an oral presentation. The project focused on a specific engineering innovation that will serve a solution to an occurring problem. Moreover, the genre of this assignment is persuasive because of the characteristic features it contains. In a persuasive essay or writing, the author tries to convince a specific idea to the audience. Similarly, in this assignment, we are presenting a problem and showing an innovation as the solution. A proposal has characteristic features that include graphs, costs, data, and descriptions. The features mentioned are used to promote the specific engineering innovation to readers. To continue, the motivation of this proposal was to deliver a solution to the surge of the consumer’s demand because of the coronavirus pandemic. Many businesses, suppliers, and manufacturers had to temporarily close, disrupting many supply chains and causing a shortage of goods during the pandemic’s peak.  Therefore, our goal was to find a solution and provide relief when regarding the surging supply of goods. Thus, the purpose of the assignment proposes a programmed drone can assist in carrying items to hospitals, homes, nursing homes, and areas that are off delivery routes. The objective was to convey how a specialized drone can be a more convent way of obtaining goods, be assistance to the vulnerable population, and helping keep the social distancing protocol. The potential audience of this writing is professor Elizabeth von Uhl. Additionally, the stance of this writing is that modified drones are the right solution for delivering supplies and aiding consumers’ demand. As a writer, I am trying to connect with the audience and bring their attention to a solution.  I am providing a concise and convincing proposal through writing and an oral presentation.

Furthermore, the proposal assignment has helped me achieved the Course Learning Outcomes. In this task, I was able to develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, and editing. As a team, my group communicated through the medium called Slack to propose ideas and assign tasks. We all wrote an outline for the assignment that included deadlines, assigned tasks, and the proposal’s objective. The framework composed as a group helped me draft this assignment by acknowledging the components needed in my writing.  We all revised and edited our work together by giving and receiving feedback from each other. Thus, I was able to engage in a collaborative and social aspect during the writing process. To continue, we used digital technology to address a range of audiences. In this scenario, we composed an oral presentation by using the medium Zoom to record a slide presentation. The targeted audience for our proposal is our classmates and professor. By using this medium, the audience can replay if they missed information. To add on, in this assignment, I used the library’s database and located research sources on the internet. For instance, when determining information for the vulnerable population and the lack of supplies during the pandemic, I recruited to the database EBSCOhost. Evaluating the credibility of the sources in the database was straightforward because the database included information concerning reliability. However, when assessing the credibility of the internet, it was more challenging because some sources lacked information such as the author or date published. Also, locating research sources on the database and web helped me explore various genres and rhetorical situations. Some genres that I encountered when researching included persuasive, informative, and analytic. When reading these different resources, I came upon the rhetorical situations of targeted audience, purpose, stance, and genre. Lastly, the learning outcome that I have achieved is the practice of systematic application of citation convention. In this assignment, I have become more familiar with the citation format for the APA style of citation and in-text citation.
